In May 2022, the two of us were appointed by Chancellor Scholz to the Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC) of the G7 states. The high-profile advisory body brings together 21 voices from 14 countries and advise the G7 countries on gender equality issues at the highest level.
Over the past several months, we have worked on recommendations and analyses in seven working groups chaired by Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger. On December 1, 2022, we presented and discussed the first interim results with Chancellor Scholz at a personal meeting. At the subsequent press conference, the chancellor emphasized the importance of the advisory council as an important driver of progress and highlighted the achievement of gender equality as an important value of the G7 countries. Jutta Allmendinger sees the report as an important "call" to tackle challenges such as the Covid19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, energy shortages and the climate crisis also from a gender perspective. Allmendinger also stressed the need for better data as a prerequisite for effective gender equality efforts. The new G7 Gender Equality Dashboard provides a new meaningful resource to support this goal.
Beginning of 2023, the final report of the 2022 Gender Equality Advisory Council will be presented.
